There was a style of ancient mosaic called ἀσάρωτος οἶκος or “unswept room” (as mentioned in Pliny’s Natural History Book 36) that was often put in Roman dining rooms. This type of mosaic featured a bunch of scraps and crumbs as if the floor were covered in the remnants of a dinner. (via thoodleoo)
