Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues

I’ve been listening to a lot of Marvin Gaye as of late. His voice holds a certain presence and his lyrics always hold a certain awareness of his time. It’s always good to hear him and hear a time that isn’t too far removed from present day or so I think.

When you think of all the protests, the tear gas, and the police brutality in Ferguson; you can’t help but wonder if he was just looking at the future vs his present day.

Seeing that we aren’t too far removed from the actions of the 1960’s. We’re worse off as a society.

"MAKE ME WANNA HOLLER. THROW UP BOTH MY HANDS….

TRIGGER HAPPY POLICING.”

(written in 1971 - still relevant today)
