Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon - Art Gallery of Ontario


  • We use an asterisk inside the word woman and women to indicate that these terms represent a constructed category of gender that too often is conflated with assigned sex at birth. Our use of the asterisk is a reminder that not only cisgendered women (those who feel comfortable with that conflation) can affiliate with the “space” of woman and that it is an umbrella term that can and may include those who identify as transwomen, transgender women, transsexual women, genderqueer, gender fluid, non binary, genderless, a-gender, non-gendered, third gender, two-spirit and also trans men when and where those people want to be included under the category of wom*n.
