From Wikipedia: Χάριτες - They ordinarily numbered three, from youngest to oldest: Aglaea (“Splendor”), Euphrosyne (“Mirth”), and Thalia (“Good Cheer”). Mann’s photo incorporates the beauty (or splendor) of the earlier versions by Raphael and Botticelli. But Mann’s photograph adds a dimension that the old men are very much lacking - the mirth and good cheer, what we call fun. Today is International Women’s Day.
